Deep in the middle of the Viridian Labyrinth, under the bowing branches of the weeping willows, there is a winding, rushing river. If you walk downstream it will join and tangle with countless other rivers on its way to the sea. If you walk upstream, however, you will find where it emerges from a cliff of moss covered stone. From a hole ten feet up the cliff it pours down into the wetlands, a crashing falls that sends spray up in all directions. The cliffside curves away until it disappears into the thick woods, and you'd be forgiven for thinking that this is where the river starts. A few dragon paces from the waterfall the cliffside is so covered in winding vines and hanging branches that it barely looks like stone, and it's there that the greenery disguises a secret cave. Only those who already know its there can find it, but if you could discover its location you'd find a deep cavern that leads away into the dark and angles slightly up, only filled with the small echoing sounds of dragon calls. Follow the cave, ignore the offshoots, and eventually you will emerge.
When the sun hits your eyes you will be momentarily blinded, having acclimatized to the dark of the cave. But as your vision returns you will see deep greens and the blue of the sky, visible in a wide circle above you. There are stone walls on all sides of this hidden glade, barring it from the outside world. There are trees growing out of the rich earth and the sides of rock, their branches dappling the light that reaches the ground. It's here that the river truly starts as a small lake, warmed by hot springs and nestled against its stone protection.
It is a truly beautiful place, but you would not notice much of it at first. The first thing you would likely notice are the dragons. Dozens of them, all breeds and colours, swarm around the place. Hatchlings flit through the branches of trees, closely watched by their nurses. Old dragons lounge in the lake, warming their bones and chatting idly. Dragons fly over the cliffs into the glade, clutching their kills from the day and disappearing into the cave system to the hoard. And high on a cliff wall there is an outcropping on which a small black dragon sits, overseeing her clan...
Faeclan is the name i've given my Flight Rising clan, which is a loreclan and i try to create lore for each of my most important dragons. The main dragons in the clan are based off of old dragon OCs from back in high school and i love them to death. read on for more information about our clan and the stories it holds...
Belladonna is the solitary matriarch of our clan, known for being unfriendly to strangers and standoffish to friends. She may not be very sociable but she loves her clan with a ferocity that can only be matched by the violence of nature.
Bella's life started with her being abandoned as a hatchling, the runt of her clutch. She doesn't remember watching her mother and clutchmates fly away, but she remembers the weeks of hunger that followed. She tried to hunt and feed herself but found little success. She was almost dead when she was found by Harbinger, also a lone hatchling, but far bigger and stronger than she was. He brought her food and, when she had regained her strength, tried to teach her how to hunt. Once she was able to care for herself she tried to loose Harbinger several times, offput by his overly friendly nature and preferring to be alone. But he always managed to find her, and eventually she gave into his assertions that they were now family. The two have been inseparable ever since.
As the two dragons grew in both size and strength they established a lair of their own and started attracting other cast off dragons, the beginnings of their clan. For a time the clan was growing and thriving in their mountaintop lair, but then a great natural disaster forced them out of the lair they had called home. For years the clan traveled, barely able to scrape together enough resources to keep them going. During these dark years Belladonna's leadership and cunning saved her clan from elimination time and again, reaffirming the clans unwavering loyalty to her. These years of hardship went on so long that the clan started to lose hope that they would ever find a place for them again, but it was Bella who found their new lair, a hidden grove in the Gladekeeper's lands.
Now the clan is thriving again. Bella watches new dragons arrive and new babies hatching and knows that she lead her clan, her family, to a place they can live in peace for as long as possible. She has retreated from leadership, letting her daughter Ironside take on the role of clan leader and spending her days lounging in the sun on the rocky outcropping just outside the small cave she sleeps in. She still stays mostly apart from the rest of the clan, preferring her own company, but will come down occasionally to spend time with her fellow elders or meet the new hatchlings. She is respected and honoured by her clanmates, and the younger generation listens with awe to the stories of how she lead the clan through their years of hardship. Belladonna, who's first moments were spent abandoned by her family, has a new family now and she will continue to watch over them until the end of her days.
